Robert Gibbs has been Obama’s press secretary throughout the Obama Presidency campaign. He is now being considered for the position of White House Press Secretary in the new Obama administration. He has been one of Obama’s closest advisers since Obama was elected to the Senate in 2004.
He has called himself ‘the protector of the image’.
Robert Gibbs Biography
Robert L. Gibbs was born on March 29, 1971. He is 37-years-old. He is a native of Auburn, Alabama. He is the son of Robert and Nancy Gibbs who both worked for the Auburn University Library System. The family moved to North Carolina in 1991. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1989. He went on to graduate cum laude with a degree in political science from North Carolina State University.
Robert Gibbs has spent his career working as a communications specialists in the campaigns of various politicians. Prior to becoming involved in Obama’s presidential campaign, he served as the communications director for the Senatorial Campaign Committee and specialized in Senate campaigns. He served as the communications director for Fritz Hollings in 1998 and was the press secretary for Representative Bob Etheridge. He was John Kerry’s press secretary during his 2004 presidential campaign. He has worked with Obama since 2004.
In 2007, Gibbs drew fire for his connection with a 527 political group that launched attack ads against then presidential candidate Howard Dean. He effectively put Dean out of the running for the democratic nomination that way, clearing the way for his own candidate, Kerry. Gibbs is known for dogged determination and complete dedication to the candidate for whom he is working. He is also known for being willing to do whatever it takes to get his candidate elected and maintain his reputation as long as he’s in his employ.
Gibbs is married and has a five-year-old son. He and his family live in Alexandria, Virginia.
